Daily Workshops
We keep on organizing workshops this year. We hope you will find them interesting. All workshops will be held in our center to a group of at most 12-13 teachers. Attendees will be awarded certificate of attendance at the end of each workshop.
Teaching IELTS, 28 November 2009, Saturday, 9.00 – 13.00, 165 TL This workshop is suitable not only for teachers who are new to IELTS, but also for those who have already had experience in preparing students for the examination. There will be a short overview of the examination and what language skills are assessed, as well as a more detailed look at each of the four papers. There will also be an opportunity to watch a sample speaking test, and to grade sample pieces of writing.
- Teaching Multilevel Classes, 2 December 2009, Wednesday 15.00 – 17.00, 90 TL All of us need to deal with classes of different levels of language, abilities and knowledge. This workshop will focus on ways to improve student motivation and interest, and discuss how mixed ability classes can be used to advantage in the teaching and learning process. We will try out various practical activities which encourage participation and involvement from all students.
- Using Songs & Music, 9 December 2009, Wednesday 15.00 – 17.00, 90 TL How can songs and music be used to help our learners develop both their listening and writing skills? This workshop will discuss ways of using songs in the classroom, both as a method of developing our learners’ skills as listeners, but also as a stimulus for creative writing.
- Teaching IGCSE English, 9 January 2010, Saturday 9.00 – 13.00, 165 TL The workshop focuses on practical teaching ideas, and not the examination itself, although reference will be made to the various papers and question types. Teachers will have the opportunity to discuss different activities and tasks which will not only appeal to their learners, but also provide valuable practice in the skills required to be successful at the IGCSE E2L level.
- Activities for Bored Teenagers, 13 January 2010, Wednesday 15.00 – 17.00, 90 TL This workshop will look at a variety of activities which will tempt teenagers into learning English in a more meaningful and enjoyable manner. Time will be spent on activities for ice-breakers, skills practice, developing meaningful lexis, and discussion topics, as well as maintaining discipline. All the activities can be used alongside any coursebook in order to supplement specific language teaching and learning.
- Drama for ELT Teachers, 23 January 2010, Saturday 9.00 – 13.00, 165 TL This workshop focuses on various aspects of Drama and its uses in teaching English to students. Teachers will have the opportunity to see examples of Drama use in the classroom and to create their own Drama activities at the end.
- Teaching Cambridge PET, 13 February 2010, Saturday 9.00 – 13.00, 165 TL PET is at B1 level of the Common European Framework, and has been accredited by the QCA as an Entry Level 3 ESOL certificate in the UK ’s National Qualifications Framework. This workshop is designed to assist teachers in preparing their students for the PET examination, and will look at various tasks and exercises which will cover all the examination papers. There will be the chance to watch a sample speaking test, and to assess the candidates’ performances.
- Teaching Cambridge KET, 20 February 2010, Saturday 9.00 – 13.00, 165 TL KET is at A2 level of the Common European Framework, and has been accredited by the QCA as an Entry Level 2 ESOL certificate in the UK ’s National Qualifications Framework. This workshop is designed to assist teachers in preparing their students for the KET examination, and will look at various tasks and exercises which will cover all the examination papers. There will be the chance to watch a sample speaking test, and to assess the candidates’ performances.
Intensive Trainings
If your idea of “resting” is to participate in an academic yet fun environment among colleagues and share ideas, we suggest the trainings below;
- Training the Trainer, 1-6 February 2010 Monday – Saturday 9.00 – 13.00 (24 hours), 890 TL This course is designed for experienced teachers who wish to move into the area of teacher training. It is particularly suitable for heads of department, senior teachers or experienced teachers who may be asked to contribute to in-service teacher development in their institutions. In fact anyone who is expected to deliver seminars or workshops or observe teachers will find this course useful. Participants must have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience, but no previous experience of teacher training is necessary.
- Teaching English to Very Young Learners, 1-3 February 2010 Monday – Wednesday 9.00 – 13.00 (12 hours), 450 TL This is a 12-hour course in teaching English to very young learners. It will focus particularly on the 3– 6 age group. The sessions will be mainly in workshop form and will provide teachers with practical ideas to use in their classrooms.
- NLP for ELT Teachers, 8 – 10 February 2010 Monday – Wednesday 9.00 – 13.00 (12 hours), 450 TL This 12-hour course is designed to introduce English language teachers of all age groups to the theories of Neuro-linguistic programming and their practical application in the language teaching classroom.
